About Me

Stephen Judge – Writer / Producer / Director / Hopeless Film Obsessive

From the moment I first held a camera, I knew two things: one, I would spend my life making films, and two, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. There was something thrilling about pointing a lens at the world and discovering that, somehow, you could make people feel something with it. That first spark ignited a lifelong passion that, to this day, has never dimmed.

After film school, I started as an editor. Those long, caffeine-fuelled nights wrestling timelines and arguing with footage taught me the real art of storytelling: patience, intuition, and learning to cry over a cut scene without anyone noticing. Editing was where I fell in love with shaping a story, one messy, imperfect frame at a time.

Directing commercials followed. The challenge of making someone laugh, cry, or buy something, all in under a minute, was exactly the kind of insane puzzle I couldn’t resist. Then I dove into documentaries, where I learned what “real stories” are – raw, sometimes brutal, often humbling, and endlessly fascinating. Traveling the world to capture them has shown me perspectives I never could have imagined.

More recently, I’ve been exploring narrative filmmaking – short films, television projects, and feature development. A space where I can experiment, take risks, and occasionally convince people I planned it that way all along. Narrative reminds me why I fell in love with filmmaking in the first place: the thrill of discovery, the shared pursuit of truth, and the magic that happens when story, performance, and imagination become one.

Through documentaries, commercials and narrative work, I’ve learned that my favourite part of filmmaking isn’t the camera, the lighting, or even the fancy post tools – it’s the people. The collaborative energy, the shared obsession, the ridiculous ideas that somehow become something beautiful. That collaborative spark is what keeps me fired up every single day.

At heart, I’m just someone hopelessly in love with film, endlessly curious, fiercely dedicated to storytelling, and occasionally convinced that caffeine is a legitimate production tool. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
